Is Color Drenching Worth It? In My Experience, YES!

When I decided to color drench my office in Sherwin Williams’ Pewter Green, I’ll admit, I was a little nervous. Everyone around me, from family to online followers, told me it was a bold choice, and some even warned I might regret it when the time came to repaint the ceiling white again. But I was determined. Here’s why I went for it—and why I wouldn’t change a thing.

Why Pewter Green?

All the other rooms in my house have white walls, and while I love the clean, airy feel they give off, I wanted something different for my office. It's the first room you see when you walk into my house and it’s a space where I spend a lot of time so I wanted it to feel unique. Plus, with four large windows that bring in so much natural light, I knew that dark colors wouldn’t make the space feel smaller.

I went back and forth debating towards a navy blue or a green, and after swatching a few samples I settled on Pewter Green (left swatch)- fitting, considering green is the new millennial grey. The best part is that this color really changes throughout the day depending on the light. Sometimes it looks blue-green, other times grey-green.

The Built-In Touch

To take the color drenching to the next level, I painted my DIY IKEA built-ins the same Pewter Green, but in a satin finish, while the walls and ceiling were painted in an eggshell finish.

Don't worry, I’ll be sharing more about the built-ins in a future post, but for now, just know that painting them the same shade as the walls and ceiling really made the space feel seamless.

The Reaction

The reactions from friends, family, and my followers were overwhelmingly positive. People were surprised at how well it worked, and many complimented how the room felt both bold and inviting. Some joked about me regretting the ceiling when I decide to repaint it white, but honestly? I love it so much, I don't think that would ever happen.

The Result: A Space I Love

Now that it’s all done, I’m so happy with the finished look. If I’m being totally honest, I wish I’d done it sooner! The room now has this “wow” factor when guests walk in and it sets the tone for the rest of the house.

Would I Recommend It?

Absolutely! If you’ve been thinking about color drenching a room in your home, GO FOR IT!—especially if the room has plenty of natural light like mine. It’s the perfect way to add personality and warmth to a space, without making it feel dark or claustrophobic. And what's the worst that can happen, you have to repaint? Far worse things could happen. Take the leap, drench the room!

Of course, it’s not for everyone, and I wouldn’t recommend it for a space that doesn’t get much sunlight. But if you’re craving a bold design change and want to make a statement with your home decor, color drenching is definitely something to consider.

My office is now my favorite room in the house, and definitely beats working from my kitchen table!
